How to create a CV from LinkedIn

If your career history already exists on LinkedIn, you can use supported information from it as the starting point for your LadderReady master profile instead of retyping everything.

Guidance by LadderReady. External references belong to their respective publishers and do not imply endorsement of LadderReady. Follow the employer’s application instructions.

Choose one of the supported import methods

Full LinkedIn archive

Upload the ZIP archive supplied through LinkedIn’s data export. LadderReady can import selected sections when their CSV files are present: profile, positions, education, skills, certifications and projects.

Fast LinkedIn import from saved HTML

For a quicker import, open your LinkedIn profile in your browser, make sure the profile content you want to import is loaded, then save the page as an HTML file and upload it to LadderReady.

Saved Skills and Certifications detail pages can also be uploaded when the main LinkedIn profile page contains only part of those sections.

  1. Open your LinkedIn profile in a desktop browser.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the profile page so all sections are loaded.
  3. Save the page to your computer as an HTML file.
  4. If you have many skills and certificates listed, you may need to visit those specific pages and again scroll to the bottom of the page so everything loads, then save.
  5. Go to your LadderReady account, open Import Data and choose the saved-HTML option. Upload the saved profile file and any optional Skills or Certifications pages.
  6. Select the sections you want to import, then review the imported information in your master profile.

Import, review and edit

  1. Create or sign in to your LadderReady account and open Import Data.
  2. Choose the archive or saved-HTML method and upload the relevant file.
  3. Select the sections you want to import. Selected sections replace the matching data currently in your master profile.
  4. Review the imported information in your master profile and edit wording, dates or details as needed.
  5. Create a CV and tailor it to the role before downloading the PDF.

The available information depends on what LinkedIn includes in your archive or saved pages and what LadderReady can read from those files. An import is a starting point, not a substitute for checking the finished CV.

After import, compare each role title, employer and date with your source. Check that projects and certifications landed in the right sections, then fill in important gaps manually. A missing section can mean the saved page did not load it or the export did not include it.

After you review and correct the imported information, it becomes part of your Master Profile. You can reuse it to create separate CVs or resumes for different applications, choose which details appear, select and customise a template, then preview and download the finished PDF.
